Is it really that bad?

I remember seeing the TV ads for this when I was a kid, and I thought my dad, who is a big Tarzan fan, would go off and see it. He didn't, and he never explained why. Is this movie so bad that even Tarzan fans shunned it?

Man, I can't believe nobody has replied to your post in 4 months!, trust me, it's one of the worst films ever.

I dragged my ex and my brothjer to see it because i thought it'd be fun, but boy, did I pay the (deserved) consequences!

Ha, thanks for the reply. Although if you noticed, my post was done back in 2004...it was a year and four months that no one responded.

I think that alot of people just dont understand that some movies are so bad and cheesy. That They are actually enjoyable. This is the case with this movie. I would hardly say this is the worst movie ever made and people who say so should really watch some episodes of MST3K. I recommend Manos The Hands of Fate, it has to be one of (if not "the") worst movie ever made. Most of the time when people say its the worst movie ever made. Most of those movies are not as bad as people make them out to be. No they are not great. But most of them are still watchable. Like the movie the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, The Fantastic Four, 89 Punisher, Daredevil, The Phantom. Most of these movies do have descent rating on IMDB. Even Catwoman & Batman and Robin are watchable movies and there are very good to make fun of. The Hulk on the other hand is so boring and pretentious that you will need to be druged to stay awake long enough to see the ending.

For me the two things that are redeemable about this movie is Jane March and the song "I'll be there". Jane March isnt a great actress. But she is nice to look at and the song was just great. I do like this movie for its cheesiness. Its no where as good as Greystoke was. But there are far worst movies out there.

Actually, even with the rather weak final act and a leading man who is IMHO too small to play Tarzan, I think this movie is pretty good. It really feels like some of the old Tarzan films, I guess because the producers were smart enough to set it in the late 1800's instead of making it modern-day (although I think that Ron Ely is the best Tarzan ever (in fact for me, like Chris Reeves will always be the real Superman, Ron Ely will always be the real Tarzan) even though Ron's series was set in contemporary times. But anyway, no this movie is not as bad as many make it out to be and shouldn't be shunned by tarzan fans.

I watched again and I enjoyed it so its not really that bad. Its watchable. I like Casper Van Dien anyway and although a lot criticize him I felt he did a decent job with this movie.

Yes it is realy realy bad. 1 hour whit absolutly nothing, and 20 minutes whit "trying somthing", but again nothing. Even the trasure is tiny.
One person like the film because he likes to watch the actress face??? What!!!

Forget the acting, the low rent production values and the bad special f/x, "Tarzan and the Lost City" commits the one unforgivable action/adventure movie sin; It's boring.

The script is so bad, so amateur, that the film never has a chance. The premise is set up early in the first act and then our characters are given nothing to do but swing from one unrelated and unnecessary scene to the next for the better part of an hour before finally getting on with the plot. Director Carl Schenkel seems to alternate between trying to inject some energy into the movie and helplessly shrugging at the futility of it all.

The one positive I'll grant is that the cast is quite game. Van Dien and March aren't good actors but I was really impressed with their efforts. If they knew they were making a turkey it doesn't show. The rest of the cast also give a commendable effort.

I hate to say it but there's just not enough here to recommend "Tarzan and the Lost City", even as a rainy day time-waster.
