why was the budget 70 million?

FIRST CONTACT had a budget of 46 million and they upgraded Insurrection to 70 million. But it doesn't look like a much higher budget. was it just cast salaries or something more?

Patrick Stewart demanded more money to continue as Picard? Or Frakes wanted more dollars for directing AND starring. Not to mention that counsellor Troi slut wanting more green.

And those space fight scenes don't come cheap, y'know.

I read Stewart got 9.5 million for his role and Spiner got 5 million. I'm sure the other cast got no more than a million for their roles. Probably Frakes got a few million for acting and directing. but yeah damn since Nemesis had a lower budget

The effects for Insurrection looked TV-quality bad. I didn't see it until it came on TV and I remember thinking it looked like a two-part TV episode instead of a feature film. The cast must have gotten a big chunk of the budget.

Pretty much sums it all up. Brent Spiner's net worth is just only seven million. I'm surprise he didn't get paid more in First Contact and Nemesis.

reply

I'd guess on location filming which is more expensive than a sound stage and may have led to a longer schedule.
