Transported to the Holo-ship Question?

How did Ru'Afo and crew not realize they were transported. Like they said earlier in the movie they would have waited until they were asleep. The crew would have know they were transported yet they had no clue?

reply

Most transporters do have a sort of lag in how long it takes to move you from A to B, but we were never shown any of the abilities of the holoship.

My personal theory is that the transporters were designed to be faster and smoother of a transition so that when they moved an entire city over night they wouldn't disturb the residents. Ru'Afo noticed that the room flashed, but everybody shrugged it off and focused on the injector launching.

So why wouldn't all transporters be built that way. What you're doing is called retcon and isn't valid.

The answer is simple. Berman is an idiot and pillar sad to say was a rodenbury a** kiss.

reply

Retcon? I think you have terms mixed up a bit. What I am doing is speculating. What you are doing is cherry picking.

What you are doing is cherry picking.
Wrong on both counts.

It's not cherry picking when only the rare exception does not follow the trend. It is a rare episode where braga doesn't make a mess of things.

You don't actually have to quote snippets of the previous post when responding.

Tell me how I'm not speculation, and how you're not cherry picking?

Retcon would imply my explanation applies universally to all previous star trek tech, but speculation implies I am making up a theory based on an explained but explainable plot device.

reply

Your explanation makes sense. I think the people would have been wondering what the flash was, while the bad guys were too focused on the job at hand.

Also... the population was 300 people. Transporting would have taken time. But this transport could be done all at once.

I mentioned below. It's all a stretch of dis-belief. But here, the concept would-be that the 'Sona' again had technology that the Federation lacked in this regard. Possibly even dangerous when transporting...

reply

I'm also conquer with the next poster. Although a slight stretch of dis-belief. It makes sense that the Sona again had technology that the Federation lacked in this regard. (or possibly it was dangerous...)

reply

Well, I'm the next poster and you haven't conquered me yet.

I swear my spelling gets worse and worse as the digital age passes on. What I meant to say, was that I 'concur' with the user 'rbf08' above.

Even though they have used transporters before, first off they were not expected to be beamed off of their ship and that took them by surprise. Second when they reappeared on what they thought was their bridge, it didn't occur to them that they were beamed aboard the holoship. Third because almost 100% of their focus was on launching the injector and for the collector to gather the metaphasic particles.

the first time i saw this movie i thought the same thing, but the second time it was obvious that the red flash that lit up the bridge for a few seconds was them being transported

considering the holoship was designed to hold an entire village of 300 (or was it more?) people over a period of time, to a point where they would not know the difference would suggest that the ship could have easily transported a bridge crew of a couple dozen pretty easily.

I bet they would have kept the villagers to sleep artificially somehow to make the transfer more fluid. People would notice the red flash too much and prolly go looking lol.

it was pretty obvious they were going to do that though. kinda lame that they did if u ask me. the first time i saw it i was like "so they did use the holoship..? did they get transported off-screen?? did i miss it?! wow what a plot hole" when i watched it again i felt dumb.

-Worf caused some kind of Power Surge that blinded them, they were x-ported during that. Fast Transporters. Remember how fast they were in Voyager? And in "Gambit" part 1, Picard was "Vaporised" but really transported by a high energy Xporter shaped like a Phaser.

reply

Fast transporters indeed, sometimes.

Watch again: There are two kinds of transporters used. The Enterprise transporters take a while and are blue/white. The others are fast and yellow/red. When the villagers are being picked off, they are transported up almost immediately. Same for all use of So'na transporters. Apparently, the holoship was another collaboration, and used So'na fast transporters.

Now the federation needs to collaborate with some species who know how to build decent holodecks. That thing was junk.
