Stop-motion animation?

When the woman's stomach bursts open with the tendrils and the tentacle shoots out that grabs the man's face (it's been way too long since I've seen this, so I don't recall specific names), the tendrils don't look like a prosthetic or CG... they look like they were stop-motion animated, at least for a few shots.

For reference, here's the scene in question:

I'm mainly referring to the shots between 0:40 - 0:45. The rest of the scene seems to be a mixture of CG and prosthetics. But those few shots look suspiciously like stop-motion.

I'm just surprised... Stop-motion stopped being in-vogue for effect in the early 90's.

And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

I believe you are correct. I've always been a fan of stop motion, particularly for monster/alien effects. The unnatural movements just fit something that's supposed to be fantastical.
