Why did Patrick blow his head off?

Only to have it grow back immediately? What was he trying to do? Makes no sense.

reply

He was trying to kill himself, he did not know it would grow back.

I thought of that, but he didn't look despondent before, and once he did it, he just sat there while it grew back and once it was back completely he just sort of got up and went about his business.

Perhaps a "Wow, that didn't work. I was so ready to off myself.....this life sucks" line from him after would have made sense!

That´s the actor´s fault . Honestly he wasn´t very good :D
His facial expression is the same for most of the movie :D

He was a very stiff actor. Can't say I recall seeing him in anything other than Species II.

But I still feel love for this movie it´s so weird it´s good imo :D
even though some little changes and it could have been a success

reply

Oh I agree. It's not as good as the original but it's decent.

The actor's acting aside, I think it's a weird thing about how he got infected. With at first he seemed to have a normal human part to his character. When he got his head off and it grew back he mostly was more alien like after that.

Most of this is all hazy guessing considering our only backstory on that part you know came from someone in a looney bin....

Sil/Eve were of course grown in a lab from a fertilized egg, so they are hybrids. Patrick went to space human and came back with somehow alien dna inside him, that ended up taking over completely. The full extent of what infected him also is souly placed on someone who might not be that credible.

Which in a fan guessing way raises some decent questions given that the series went on to have a lot of his offspring be flawed. I think that might make the case that either the transformation or the "goo" or "DNA infector" might not have been perfect in itself. Or at least not "normal" for this alien species on any normal day.

I read that the astronaut character was supposed to generate some sympathy, a la Larry Talbot as the Wolfman as a poor guy not in control of his situation. That being said, the guy was a terrible actor (as stated in other posts) and didn't do a very good job. However, if he blew his head off, the regeneration would be more alien tissue, and after that botched suicide, he would no longer be in control.

Actually, the dumbest thing about that scene is that after blowing his head off, his haircut grows back into the style it had before too. Now THAT'S a healing factor.

He asked us, "Be you angels?"
and we said, "NAY, we are but men," ROCK!

reply

Oooooh, you're right about his hair and it growing back the same way. good catch!

reply

Yeah the guy was a terrible and dull actor. Say what you will about the first but Natasha Henstridge did well in her role as Sil.

He still had memories and knew how to speak and things like that, after totally regenerating his brain tissue. I'm not sure how that worked.

I don't think the movie makers were too worried about anything making sense.
