Having seen this film for the first time last night, I was massively disapointed, given the general quality of the two leads, and the quality of some of De Palma's earlier films.
However, what really stood out was the boxing scenes. I know the fight was meant to be fixed, etc, but they have to be the single most unrealistic fight scenes I have ever seen. Can anybody think of a film containing fight scenes nearly as bad as this?
Yes. RAGING BULL. One of the worst fights scenes ever. Scorsese never knew nothing about sports...

I can think of many but the first one that comes up in my mind is 48 Hours when Eddie Murphy fought with Nick Nolte. Man how sad wasn't that fight. I laughed my ass off.

yeah no offense to Stan Shaw's character, but i wasn't convinced he was a boxer at all, he looked so horrible in the ring, and you are right it was suppose to be fixed, but you have to make it look real, and if that's the way he always fights, then i have no idea how he became a champ.
i really can't think of any movies with bad fights that equal to that boxing match.
perhaps that's how the director wanted it to look, maybe it wasn't the actors at all, but either way someone f'd up.

I have to agree with Snake Eyes' fight scenes.. But worst of all are the fighters involved.. I don't think anybody, anywhere, could possibly think these two fat, overweight, and paunchy pugilists are heavyweight contenders fighting for the world title.. Their titties were flopping around like two huge salmon on a floor of a canoe. I dunno.. I still love this movie.. It's just one of those movies that I can pop in at 5 in the morning and be enthralled still...
And the dude who says Raging Bull is the worst; well, he needs somebody to give him a once over and give his face a Genero-like bashing for that comment.. But oh well; opinions shmalinions.... Mine is garbage too.
