still avoiding it 11 years later

part of me wants to see this dvd, but i just can't get over how bad it looks. is it really that bad? some of de palma's works are absolute torture to watch (like Femme Fatale)

reply

You should watch it for the opening sequence, which is brilliantly shot. Easily one of the best intros ever. The film manages to hold your interest until the last half, where it quickly dwindles into cliche Hollywood. The ending isn't quite as bad as Femme Fatale's

now go home and get your fuckin shine box!

Agreed with Captain...the opening sequence is masterly done. The film's twist is quite predictable from the start and the last half hour is cliche. Still an entertaining film.

oooh! you wrote a bad word. you ain't uhposuh do that. but i ain't gonna snitch cuz snitches get stitches

reply

Yeah, the opening sequence is ingeniously constructed. It's wonderful how the camera and narrative snake their way into the arena and deeper into the story.

Yeah I think Carrie, Blow Out, Scarface, The Untouchables, Casualties of War, Carlito's Way, Mission: Impossible are great films. so I think that femme fatale shouldn't hurt some of the best films.

I watched it again recently. The first time I thought it was just about average, now - I cannot get over the opening sequence and how much energy Cage has in this role. Im not particularly a Nick Cage fan, but I am beside myself with how awesome this movie is.

It's a sleeper classic. Just a beautiful movie.
