Yeah, exactly. Couldn't have said it better myself! :)
I stopped watching maybe three quarters into the film, which happens very rarely (and I lasted that far only because of the promising cast), but thought, what the heck, the internet is better than this.

I agree. Powerful actors, some poorly cast. Kevin Spacey seems so out of place in this film. He is unbelievable and has no chemistry with Judi Dench. I felt bad for Judi, playing against a lump of clay with such unnuanced delivery. I used to love Kevin Spacey - thought he was a great actor, but this - this was not the one.

I agree. This was such a dreary, turgid mess. The film stops having much to say after the first 10 minutes or so.
I thought Judi Dench portrayed her character in a haunting way, but it took sooo long for this character to do anything interesting.
The characters, even the normally good Kevin Spacey, were so cartoonish & the film lacked clarity.
