Might win the award for....

I enjoyed the movie (or at least a lot more than an awful lot of posters on this board), but I swear, for a movie set in the real world, this has to get the award for the strangest crop of character names, possibly ever.

I remembered that the wife of the Melville couple was named "Silver," but had no recollection of the husband being named "Bayonet." Then there's Wavey, Petal, Agnis (never seen it spelled this way), Tert Card, a child with the given name Bunny. Even Jack and Dennis get saddled with "Buggit" and Billy with "Pretty."

Apropos of nothing else in the film or the book, what was Annie Proulx drinking, smoking, popping or inhaling when she wrote this?

Appreciate the point you're trying to make, but you can hardly blame the film's producers for keeping the characters' names (from a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel)intact. Imagine the flak they would have copped if they'd tried to "update" them.
