Irish
They had what sounded like Irish-type accents. I had read that there were a lot of Irish originally in Newfoundland because the "coffin ships" from Ireland during The Hunger immigrations would stop there and dump the sick overboard. Those who could manage to swim to shore they left there before heading down the coast to the US. Is tht the reason for the accents? Would a village like that mainly have people of Irish descent?
