I think she was utterly wasted in the movie. She won a couple of awards but there was nothing substantial to her character at all. I for once couldn't realize it was Cate Blanchett but some unknown actress put in a small role. Her character was a caricature and cliche. I don't why she chose to do it for she wasn't struggling that time in any way, she had won an Oscar nomination. Julianne Moore too was wasted. Judi Dench was too wooden.

Good! You have exposed vikram8402 for the stupidity of his comments. It's quality of performance not quantity of time on-screen that's the measure of an actor's performance. And Cate and Judi were not wasted in this movie, in fact they were excellent. So were Spacey, Ifans, Postlewaite and Pinsent. The cast truly bought the Pulitzer Prize winning book to life.
