I certainly couldn't tell any differently.

Basically he was saying it was a set up! It was an abandoned building so they weren't going to exchange money in an abandoned building, which is why they actually did the drop at the museum or whatever that was.

It doesn't really make sense, though.

Why would the amount of money dictate the environment in which you want to exchange it? You could do it in the dirtiest back alley, what difference does that make as long as the exchange is done and you get the money?

It does make sense. Lee was wise enough to know that they weren't going to exchange money in that environment. Just look at the environment in which they were going to exchange the money, in a fancy building with Chinese artifacts compared to an abandoned building.

The kidnappers were kind of giving a lot of clues to think about it. For example Consul Han was a public servant, he did not have $50 million, none does, certainly not in cash in less than a day, especially in specific notes, only FBI can access that kind of cash in short notice.

They called days later, enough time for Lee to fly from Hong Kong, to make sure FBI was involved, and when they called they directly addressed to FBI, so that was not some minor street criminals, must have been some well organised people who had full confidence taking ransom money from FBI.

Why would they call from an abandoned building if not knowing FBI would be there?
