The movie that started it all!
Anyone else feel like this movie kind of launched the video games being made into movies craze, as well as anything related to the zombie craze going on today?

shareIf you are going to give the honors of kicking off the video game to movie craze then it would more likely be Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. It debuted a year before and made more money. There is also Pokemon: The First Movie and Mortal Kombat which both did very well.
shareI'll agree regarding Tomb Raider but Pokemon wasn't really a video game into a movie rather than a TV show into a video game. Mortal Kombat possibly but then you are stretching it back into like the mario brothers movie haha!
shareWell Mario wasn't successful or liked by anyone with any taste.
shareZombie craze is a big yes. But definitely not video games to movie. This came out when vampires were still cool and scary. Now they sparkle in sunlight and date high school students. This is the reason why people have doomsday bunkers for the zombie apocalypse though. Also I wish they would make vampires scary again they'll have to do something big to revive but I trust they can. I mean we are a species of amnesiacs.

Yes-I think this is the movie that helped start the trend for the lamest-most boring- unoriginal-unimaginative movie genre ever. A time machine would maybe stop it happening.
Zombies-WHY do people like zombies????!!!!!
This movie was actually pretty bad and is responsible for saddling us with Paul WS Anderson. This was was at least somewhat watchable though, the sequels that I've seen have all been flaming poop in a bag.
shareNo, I don't think this movie started anything, other than there being a few sequels. 28 Days Later from the same year has had far more influence on the zombie craze. Resident Evil wasn't a that big of a hit, It didn't do anything new, it took an already popular videogame franchise and slathered it with a then trendy Matrix style coat of paint. While I did enjoy this first film, the entire series has never felt like anything more than a stonethrow away from being direct to video fodder.
shareNot really, you have Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider, Mario Bross, Street Figther, Final Fantasy to name a few... Also pokemon was first a video game and a year later they made the tv show.
shareThis is just 1 example from back then. I saw Final Fantasy in theaters in 2001 and did first Pokemon come in 2000? My memory starts to fade from back then. Spider-Man.
shareWell you are obviously a millennial. I'll give you that. Thinking everything started with your generation.
