Samuel L Jackson: one of the most unexpected cast to positively surprise

When I first saw this movie and knew Sam Jackson is in it, My expectation was it might be some action-driven shallow hollywood cliche movie- turned out to be a quiet magnificent and artful movie piece!

Were you as surprised as I am?

SLJ is a great actor, but I would've never expected that massterful direction this movie takes!

My opinion is that SLJ ruined the movie. I was not at all convinced by his portrayal. Either wrong actor for the role, or wrong acting, wrong directing of that character. Something.

Not sure I liked his presence either. He just didn't seem to click. Loved him in "Jackie Brown" and "Pulp Fiction"; but he was wasted in "Star Wars".

Richard Gere might have pulled it off.... Or Christopher Plummer...

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks so. Not sure about Richard Gere. Christopher Plummer sounds good. I just wonder what the exact thought process was behind casting SLJ.

I wasn't the least bit surprised. It is a shame that Hollywood directors have labeled him a bad ass action hero type guy. His acting ability is just amazing and I'm only sorry that he hasn't really done much work like this since it was made. It's a serious loss, you know.
