Dmitri Shostakovich - Violin Concerto No. 1 - 1st Movement

I recently heard the first movement of Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 1 on my local classical music station. I was struck by certain similarities to The Red Violin's chaconne used in the film. Does anyone know if John Corigliano (the film's composer) was at all inspired by the Shostakovich piece?
