I'm buying it today on iTunes.
This is a soundtrack that seems to have a life of its own. I think it's better known than the movie. Both it and the instrument itself almost seem to be characters in the movie themselves.
I have heard Corigliano's music from the soundtrack quoted from or sort of rewritten and played in this style many times, in movie trailers and as background music for TV and commercials.
Michelle Kwan won both the US National and World Figure Skating titles in 2000 skating to The Red Violin. The music was well edited, the program beautifully choreographed and Kwan interpreted it flawlessly. This was my introduction to the music, and it probably was for others.
What took me so long to buy it?
I've had this soundtrack on my computer for a few years now and Death of Chou Yuan remains one of my favourite pieces. I've also had the movie for a while now and finally watched it today. What took me so long to watch it?
