Similarities between Quest for Camelot and Mulan

I am not bashing either of these movies! Just some odd similarities I picked up.

I came up with this list at work...tee hee.

-Both films were released in 1998
-Both films feature a female character as the lead
-Both heroines have their hair tied back for the majority of the movie
-Both heroines have strong ties to their father
-Both heroines save the kingdom
-Both heroines personally save the monarch of said kingdom
-Both heroines rescue the guy...TWICE
-Both of them live on a farm
-Both heroines defeat the villain in an unconventional manner involving wits and not strength
-Both villains have bad fingernails
-Both villains have receding hairlines and long hair
-Both villains have weird eyes *twitch*
-Neither villain is technically a magic user (Ruber uses magical potions and such but has no real power; Shan Yu originally had some mind-link with his falcon, but it was cut out of the movie)
-Both villains have beaked companions
-Said beaked companions each get torched by a dragon
-Both movies have comedic dragon characters
-Both movies are set in feudal times
-Both movies are based off of regional legends
-The first songs of both movies are ensemble pieces, each sung by a chorus comprising of one gender. (In layman's terms: only guys sing "United We Stand," only women sing "Honor to us All")

Can anyone think of more?

I can think of one other thing:

They both go and do something that is technaically "forbidden" for them to do.

In Mulan, she joins the army, and in Quest for Camelot, Kaley becomes a knight.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! I thought of anothr one. Both male leads get kinda nervous when around th female lead towards the end. Also that the male leads are preetty cocky.

As you wish. -Westley

Also, the two leading females both look at their reflection in water while singing near the beginning of the movie.

I thought of the similarities while watching, too. The two villains really did look very much alike.

The similarities are really strange. I wonder if they were intentional... They were only a month apart, but anything's possible, I guess.

- Both winged Companions steal swords for respected villains at some point in the film.
- Both heroines argue with their parents before they leave home.
- Both heroes are skilled in using a stick as a weapon.
- The heroine's mother wants her daughter to follow common convention and expectations for women. Perhaps a bit more than the father.
- Both have songs involving the hero's somewhat antagonistic relationship with the heroine, with the heroine trying to keep up with the hero and screwing up most of the time('I Stand Alone' and 'I'll Make a Man Out of You').
- Both dragons attempt to intimidate the heroine with the use of shadows to make themselves appear larger and more frightening when they first meet.
- Final confrontation involves the villain making an attempt on a ruler's life and beating up the hero at the top of a castle, only to get nailed by the heroine in th end.
- Both have sidekicks voiced by African-American Actors/Comedians (if you considder Jaleel White a comedian).
- Both start out with the heroine getting fitted for a new dress.
- Both heroines flee from their homes on a horse at night.
- I notice Kayley and Mulan have alot in common as far as their expressions and mannerisms are concerned. Both are somewhat antsy and tend to act similar to the other.

While we're at it...

Mulan vs. Kayley (+ Excalibur) - Who wins this? No Prep, Standard Equipment.
Shan-Yu vs. Lord Ruber - Standard Equipment, Prep/No Prep, Who wins this?
Sir Lionel vs. Fa Zhou
Lady Juliana vs. Fa Li
King Arthur vs. Li Shang
Devon/Cornwall vs. Mushu

Wow!!!They are similar!

Both female roles are strong and courageous. They aren't the stereotypical women of their times. However, they became involved with their own wars for different reasons.Mulan first decides to fight to save her father from death.Kayley wanted to save her mother and Camelot.

That's good. One is that both heroines reascued the kings of their kingdoms.

A few more I came up with -
- Both featuring Long-Bearded, Old Men (Merlin, The Emperor) who serve different purposes in the film.
- Both heroines leave home to save one of their parents.
- Both heroines retrieve a sword for someone and also defeat their villains at the end of their films by getting them stuck somewhere with their own swords.
- Both beginning with an attack on a castle.
- Both heroines temporarily delay their enemies with quick thinking by getting them buried somewhere (Mulan starts an avalanche, Kayley traps Ruber and his men by having that giant hand-thing act as a cage and burying them in dirt)

Both movies feature the "BARBECUE" joke when both dragons torch baddies!

It's really remarkable and funny how much "Mulan" and "Quest for Camelot" has in common. It would've be tempting to scream plagiarism, but their similar components are remarkable.

The differences may be small, but Kayley looses her father during the picture. Garrett is not an officer. At least his relationship with Kayley is more expanded than Mulan and Shang's relationship were.

While I've bashed "Quest for Camelot" priorly, I've re-gained my appreciation for it.

Mostly true.. But Mulan is 16 and Kayley is 20 which is funny.. as Mulan is way more mature than Kayley.
