What did the soldiers do?

They were just following orders. And it's not like they could just respectvely protest the pharoahs actions without being put to death they were doomed to die at the start.

So why doesn't god spare them?

You know as we'll as I do that's not an explanation.

And besides god created the concept of sin. If he was truly merciful he would forgive everyone and abolish the notion of sin. You act like god is forced to hate by an obligation when in reality he's the one who creates that obligation. He has as much need to hate sinners as I have a need to buy a candybar.

This is assuming of course god exists. Which he doesn't .

All the Egyptians who accepted the Hebrew God as the rightful, true one, left Egypt with the Hebrews. And before that, the ones who had faith marked their door posts with blood, just like the Hebrews did. So you see, the Egyptians who should have been spared were spared. Everyone who remained in Pharaoh's army after Jehovah's demonstration of such power and loyalty to his chosen people were inexcusable.

"I'd rather be right and on my own, than wrong in the company of everyone else."
