(SPOILERS) So it all hinged on ...

Her guessing the combination to the safe.

I thought that was pretty lame. Pretty great up until then. But to throw all the evidence in that 3-lock box and just walk away from it, knowing that it has a very guessable combo....

I dunno - I just didn't like that being the crux of the whole thing.

It's a film. Remember strange things occur like that in every day life. What did you expect him to do with the money? Leave it on the trunk of his car?

It's supposed to be a reworking of Dial M For Murder, and I like the idea of an update, more complicated for more complex time and people (?), but Dial M's plot turned completely in the key, a fairly brilliant (deceptively simple) idea. This film basically turned the key into nothing, for, as already posted, the thing with the shoe box and combination, which was a bust.

I agree with the OP. I thought it was a good film overall but the ending get kinda irked me. Majority of people would have destroyed the tape and paperwork with it ASAP, and I know this sounds like perfect hindsight but I wouldn't have let her out of my sight until I did so (and grab the key,,,make sure she was gone).
