I don't quite understand, which time Foley gets locked up comes first chronologically. Was is right after he gets shot, or was it when he robbed the bank after turning down Ripleys job offer? Also, when they are all shown in jail, was that a bit completely unrelated to the other 2?
shareBasic high level chronology:
1) Ripley (and Foley, Buddy, Snoopy, & Glenn) in prison (Foley doesn't know Ripley personally at the start of this, so it must happen before the other sections in which they do know each other)
2) Foley gets paroled & goes to Ripley for job, robs bank across the street (this wouldn't make any sense if it wasn't after meeting Ripley in prison)
3) Foley in Glades with the Cubans, the escape, Miami (Adele's comment on the phone about leaving the motor running next time is a reference to how Foley was caught at the end of item 2; so this must come after that)
4) Detroit / Ripley house heist / Karen shoots & captures Foley (obviously Karen did not know Foley before the escape and did know him in Detroit, so this must come after item 3)
The very end of the movie, Foley's conversation with Hijira in the van, is also chronologically the latest event that we see in the movie. We never see Foley back in prison after being shot by Karen.
