Linklater Is An Inconsistent Director

as the direction in this movie was terribly leaden - boring, almost.

now very nimble nor agile.

disappointing.

Even good directors have a few stinkers. I mean, aside from this and fast food nation, linklater is quite consistent (though I'm not personally a fan of scanner darkly. Even Bad News Bears was decent considering all signs pointed to crap).

I mean, two bad movies hardly makes him inconsistent, even if this was unforgivably bad.

Steven Spielberg directed 1941 and Hook!

Kubrick directed Eyes Wide Shut (which I personally like, and I'm in the minority)

David Fincher directed Panic Room.

Aronofsky directed The fountain (I know, 1 out of 3, but still...)

Some truly great but inconsistent directors: Woody Allen, Francis Ford Coppola.

1941 is the only Spielberg film I have any genuine affection for.

You picked awful directors to compare. Laugh!

Pack your bags... we're going to Memphis.

Nope, you're right - purely makeweight at best. The insanely overrated Boyhood was like watching community theater directed onscreen.
