filmed in Bertram

fyi: most likely because McConaughey and Linklater are from Texas a good portion of this movie (the town scenes) were filmed in Bertram, TX. Northwest of Austin. My grandparents lived there for awhile.

Howdy, I'm the owner of the Iron Star Hall of Bertram, where part of the Newton Boys was filmed. The Hall was spotted by a scout who was scouting the nearby railroad track for the movie, In The Line of Fire with Denzel Washington, Meg Ryan, and Lou Diamond Phillips. I'm 95% sure that was the name of the movie. Anyway, Lou Diamond committed suicide on the tracks in the movie, about 3 miles down the road. In the movie, the Hall was called the Omaha Hotel. Most all of the set still remains. In creating a hotel interior, the crew built fake walls, stain glassed the windows, put in new wood floors, built a hotel desk, and painted a mural at the rest of our fantastic staircase. It still looks fantastic. Officially, the building is the J.H. Griffith Building. It is now 101 years old. We began hosting weddings and reception in the building a couple years after the movie and changed the name to The Iron Star Hall. Most recently, Bertram hosted part of the filming of the Life of David Gale with Kevin Spacey. Even though none of the footage made the movie, the movie crew used the Hall as a rest station. Tell Mathew Hook-em Horns and keep going to them football games. We love it. Drop on by the Hall if you are in the area. We'll show you around for nothing. Don't forget to tell your friends. Our website is www.ironstarhall.com.

The movie you're thinking of is "Courage Under FIre".
"In the Line of Fire" is the one where Clint Eastwood and Renee Russo are Secret Service agents.
