Is Mulan becoming a Disney classic instead of underrated?

I have noticed lately that Mulan has been getting some level of attention from Disney. Since the live-action movie will be out in a couple of years, can Mulan finally rank up there with Beauty and the Beast and the Lion King and not often be pushed aside with films like Atlantis or Treasure Planet? Thoughts?

I watched Mulan last night on Netflix for the first time and was surprised with how much I enjoyed it....... great all round movie. Aladdin was the last Disney movie I watched before Mulan the week before and while I thought Aladdin was fun Mulan was much the better movie all-round.

If it gets a live action remake, maybe Disney is breathing new life into the franchise. IMO, Tarzan deserves a live action remake too. Both Tarzan and Mulan are underrated classics and are far better than Hercules and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I hate Hercules and Hunchback was one I never really cared for or could get into.

Well every movie affects people differently, Hunchback is personally one of my favorite Disney movie, and I find it to be the most underrated post- Renaissance 90's movie followed by Tarzan. However, I find Mulan to be kinda overrated and it didn't strike a cord with me emotionally. I loved the first third, but think it went downhill after that. The comedy didn't work for me and the soldiers and war scenes were too silly to be truly emotionally invested. Also, I was underwhelmed by the villain and songs, "I'll Make a Man out of You" was the only memorable one.

Great post. I couldn't say it better.

I'm not trying to be condescending, but Mulan has always been given attention from Disney. Her movie has been given less attention lately, but it's not as completely neglected either.

I thought I posted in this topic before but it turns out you recreated it. I'll just repost my response from the first one below:

I'm not sure who's calling it underrated, it's considered by most the best Renaissance film outside the big four. Of course that last detail boggles my mind as I find Mulan to be the worst of the bunch. I know most films of that era have flaws but they can usually be overlooked. Mulan's flaws can't be ignored because the movie constantly beats you over the head with them. Combined with how much Disney still uses it like you said, it should be considered overrated.

To add to that, no, it will never be on par with Disney's best which are mostly their classics like the original five, not films like that overrated lion film.
