This movie is way worse than the 1956 version!!

OMG. I can't believe 42 years after the great John Huston's masterpiece, the only version of Melville's novel we have had is this piece of sh it. Not talking about the performances here, because they are clearly superior in the old version. Aside from Gregory Peck or Orson Welles, most of the crew were fine british actors.

This TV film is so cheesy it's laughlable. The CGI sperm whale sucks, but the rubber one is lame, lame, lame. They use a piece of cardboard with a fin on it (sperm whales have humps on their back, but no triangle-shaped fins, mmmkay?). the white whale from the 1956 movie is still great looking, even for today standards.

Horrible movie.

I emphatically agree. After teaching Melville's splendid novel to university literature classes, I've shown the 1956 film to the same classes. I've also recently re-watched it on You Tube. It's far superior to the 1998 version.
