Would M:I2 had been better had Brian DePalma come back to direct?

I mean, it has often been pointed out that this movie is essentially a remake of Alfred Hitchcock's Notorious and Brian DePalma himself built most of his career trying to ape on Hitchcock.

I regard DePalma as an overrated director who is great at iconic scenes but lousy at everything else. MI:1 was the worst MI movie but has that one super iconic hanging-heist scene that made cinema shockwaves through the genre for decades. Other than that theft sequence, the movie is a total mess.

I feel the same way about Scarface. The "Say hello to my little friend" scene is emblazoned on everyone's mind forever. Yet the rest of the film is bland and tiresome.

I love Woo's Hong Kong movies but dislike all of his American films except this one. MI:2 is pretty good with only a few parts that bug me. Far better than MI:1 despite its flaws.
