survey: for those who liked it - or didn't

Everyone who bothered coming to this board either loved or couldn't stand this movie and felt the need to share that.
So I thought of asking what your personal top 5 would be.

If you adored MDH, give 5 titles with similar effect on you.
And if you thought this one wasn't worth the film it was recorded on, then give 5 examples of what really should be seen.

And for the sake of the survey, mention which exactly of the two you are :)

reply

1. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
2. Punch Drunk Love
3. Love Liza
4. Wild At Heart
5. Dancer In The Dark

I adore Million Dollar Hotel.

It is *beep* genius.

Its *beep* adorable.

Dixie

Tom-Tom

Eloise

Everything.

I love that the retards hate it.

I have it all to myself, and you 'tards love it that way too, so don't even bother slagging me off for this post.

I'm not even here.

I adored M$H.

And I think it's quite hard to find another film that could produce a similar effect to me, M$H is unique. Some other Wim Wender's movies could have something similar, but, we are not looking for Wim's list of work, are we? :p

I'll list other five titles I liked,

listed with no particular order:

Lost and Delirious
27 Missing Kisses
Isabella (2006)
Amadeus
Little Miss Sunshine

and yes, I like dancer in the dark very much, too. :)

I loved this movie
I saw it back in 2001 and I just felt the need to see it again this past week, it's a movie that pierces your heart

The Science of Sleep
High Fidelity

I only caught the last ten minutes, on the rooftop. I thought it looked great. I love quite movies. It pissed me off though, because IFC only played it one time. I hate that. They play Dancer in the Dark and Dancer in the Attic like fifty times, but they only play the good ones once. Same thing happened with Fulltime Killer

Now, I am become Death, Destroyer of Worlds

Update as of January 28, 2008 - Million Dollar Hotel was just shown again last night on IFC, so you might want to check the IFC schedule as it may play in a rotation again soon. It's a great flick; Mel Gibson was a perfect counterpoint to the hotel residents, but not necessarily less strange than any one of them.

I saw this film a long time ago but it stuck with me because i loved it so much. So im going to track it down and watch it again really soon.

i can only think of one film at the momment that had a similar effect of me and that is 'Discopigs'.

I thought I owned this film but it too has apparently fallen victim to the disappearing gremlin act of my DVD collection. Haven't seen it in years but get quick flashes of this movie in my head. I still too aspire to find my Mila.
God Jeremy Davies character in this movie is so right on.

1 - High Art
2 - Suicide Kings
3 - Amelie
4 - One Night At McCool's... (same period I saw them in maybe? not sure why)
5 - More (short film)

I didn't love it or hate it. Some wonderful things in it for me that weren't realized -- a lot of it came off as a "we are the world" commercial - the production values were just too at odds with the supposed situation. It seemedl like Bono hired Wim Venders - maye should have been the other way around.

my movies in a similar mood would be

1) Paris Texas, since we're on Wim Venders,
2) krivánci na niti - Jiri Menzel -- look it up, find it, it's super.
3) Zaak Alzheimer, De -- one of a lot of good belgian/netherlands films out - original, not commercial
4) König der Diebe -- fun, yet with sentiment
5) can't remember the title - Dutch film about a guy meeting a girl in a bar: time folds around this instant and repeats from different points of view.

the Michael enjoyed this movie very much. I had to get 4 different replacement dvds because the first 3 were messed up and I couldn't play them of my dvd player. I never seen this movie before and I was already determined to buy it. mostly because I used a cupon that worked for it's pricerange. But it was well worth the frustration.

the Michael's other favorite small budget movies are

Ginger Snaps
Pieces of April
Show Me
Hard Candy
Dummy

They're not in order or anything. IT'S ALL GOOD.

i couldn't help but laugh when i read stringpower's list... i'm stuck believing that it's a joke and that the poster was going for listing some of the cheesiest movies. bear in mind that i'm not the sort that thinks that cheesy is bad... just that someone saying they hated MillionDollarHotel and then lists the likes of Leprechaun 3 or the non-Kubrick Stephen King movies is obviously (hopefully) making a joke.

anyhow, i thought it was a great movie (though Mel Gibson was an odd pick)and most of the ones that i'd have suggested have already been listed... though, for some reason i got some flashbacks of Rumblefish while watching it. haven't seen it in a long time, though, so it might've just been the feel of some of the scenes. well, take care...

I see A LOT of movies and this is by far the WORST one I have ever seen. Tom Tom's voice is more annoying than nails scratching down a chalkboard. Only good thing about the film is all the U2 music and I spotted Bono sitting in a chair at the restaurant.

Why did Mel do this movie? I don't think he needed the money...

5 movies to see:
Little Miss Sunshine
Muriel's Wedding
Bobby
The Lookout
Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium

if you liked this (which i did) then try these five:

I heart Huckabees
Spun
Love me if you dare
Withnail and I
Easy Rider
