Why did the veterans get sent down?

Why the hell did all the Indians veterans get sent down to the TWINS minors? I mean, I can buy alotta movie BS, but this was just stupid

reply

They were probably released and signed minor league contracts as many over-the-hill players do.

so 60% of the Indians get cut (including one that came from Japan and would never go to the minors, he would go home) and they ALL sign on the same team in another organization? Doesn't happen that way lol.

And a lil FYI, you are alluding to players like Rickey Henderson, Jose Canseco, etc if I am not mistaken. Those teams they sign with are independent, and no affiliated with any MLB team.

reply

It's a little unrealistic, but very many over the hill players are playing in the minor leagues at this very moment. It happens all the time. I'll give you a list if you want and they are minor league teams affiliated with the major league teams

reply

I know of many, but entire teams do not migrate together like that lol. And Rube wasn't "Over the Hill", Sorano was supposed to be this mammoth power hitter, and tonaka was a Japanese guy, why would he go to the Twins minors? lol

If you actually watch the movie they explain everything. Rube got traded or he was a free agent. Did you hear the part about him being with San Diego and his control problem came back? that gives you the impression that they traded him. Then Cerano actually found Gus, and Gus probably talked him in to playing, same with Tanaka. Obviously after some time away from baseball these guys aren't gonna jump right to the major league team, but they won't be sent down to A or AA. All of this should've been easy to figure out if you watch the movie.

If you can't spot the sucker in the first half hour at the table, then you ARE the sucker.

If you don't know why Rube is back in the minors, you're a moron.

neither Sorano or tonaka where still playing baseball when the movie started. They ran into them along the way and they joined the team. And their are plenty of Japaneseplayers in the minors, not all go straight to the majors

How are three players (Cerano, Rube, Tanaka) and entire team? Players get traded or sign as free agents all the time. Dorn, having played with Cerano, may have talked him into signing with his new team the Twins. That's not uncommon, either, with former teammates. Taka is the only one that's a little far-fetched.

reply

The only explaination I can offer is that. Rachel Phelps the owner in the first two installments out right released their contacts. She did after all want to move the team to Miami and replace the players with better talent.

As for the question about how Cantrell knows Tanaka,Baker,Cerrano, and Dorn, I'd assume that during the second movie Cantrell might have either been with a major league team in the bullpen as a long man or a late call up and got to play the Indians when all of them were on the team. He also could've read the news, watched ESPN or the playoffs, etc. that'd inform him on the players. I don't believe he initially knew a lot about Tanaka other than of his close friendship with Cerrano. Maybe due to his age he might have either was on a minor league squad while Cerrano and Dorn were coming up or faced them in the minors.
