Did you notice the date of that news item? "3 September 1998"

I've had that DVD since 1999, but don't recall which PC features are self-contained, and which required access to the website.

In the printed instructions on the case there is a Tech Support site listed, http://www.pcfriendly.com/ (old)
A message there and links point to new site: http://player.interactual.com/help/support/default.asp

An update for the PCFriendly Player (from version on DVD) here: http://download.interactual.com/patches/pcfriendly/pcfupdate_071900.exe
or use their newer InterActual Player, also available for download.

In addition to the typical deleted scenes and audio commentary bonus features found on most DVDs, this one has:
"Biographies and filmographies of current and original cast members and much more!"
"The Television Years" - featuring synopses of all original episodes and interviews with original cast members.
"Building the Special Effects" featurette
"The Future of Space Travel" featurette
Production Designs
Apollo Four Forty Music Video

"There's a ditty on the package that says it needs Window's 95 or 98 to run the content...maybe that's the problem?"

My DVD case reads: "You must have a DVD-ROM drive on your PC with Windows 95 or higher to operate the enhaced features of this disc." So Win 95 was only a minimum requirement. Later versions of Windows have the 'Compatibility Mode' option to run individual programs as if you were using an older Windows version than the one currently installed. If you think that will make any difference you could try it with this program.

I would try running it here right now but this PC's DVD drive was removed to put into the case of the new PC I am building, and it's not finished yet. Once it's done I'll try running the Hypergate features on the DVD. Hopefully I won't forget to check the DVD and post the results here when the PC is finished.
