I'm sorry but I really can't agree with most of what was said here in the first post.
1)Virtually no character development.
Really? Will at the beginning of the film feels unloved by his father, and his father is distant wrapped up in his career. By the films end both have changed. Penny also hates this whole trip, and by the end is happy to be with her family. Judy IS as West observes a cold fish but by the end softens to West. West while cocky and a little annoyed by the Robinsons learns that their stronger than he imagined.
That sounds like an awful lot of character development to me.
2)Penny is an oversexed 12 year old who dresses like a hooker.
First she's a young lady and growing into a woman for her to be interested in boys is not uncommon...I find that hard to define as 'oversexed'. Second dressed like a hooker? She's dressed as what the makers of the film envisioned a future teen would dress like...and honestly she wears her Jupiter 7 flight suit just like most of the cast does throughout most of the film...how is that a hooker?
3)Matt LeBlanc should stick to playing semi-retarded Italians.
I'm not retarded or Italian and I find that an offensive and just plain stupid statement. Leblanc played exactly what was written, a cocky young heartthrob pilot and to be honest there was nothing wrong with that.
4)The CGI Monkey.
Well I'll agree its an annoying character, but its also a throwback to the original series in which Penny had that space monkey. Personally I didn't like the space monkey to begin with and didn't care for Blarp in this either but it was a pet and had little or no story behind it other than for Penny to have a pet so it didn't bother me too much.
5)Insulting the intelligence of anyone over 9 years old.
As for it insulting the intelligence of anyone over 9 years old...Blarp is not supposed to appeal to the over 9 audience. Lost in Space is designed as a family film that will appeal to as broad an audience as possible. The adults will like the sci-fi element and the nostailga of an update on the original. Matt Leblanc is there to bring in the girls and women. Heather the young boys, Mimi the men, Will and Blarp the kids. And Smith of course is the antgonist.
6) The Mom and Dad seem to be on lithium.
What? I mean seriously, what? Nothing phases them? First of all their professionals in their field, so they handle stuff as calmly as possible. Next Nothing phases them? I don't know they all seem pretty phased when Judy is about to die. And they all seem pretty phased when the Spiders are attacking them, and when the ship is trying to break atmosphere or you know what I've made my point there.
I'm not gonna debate the sucess of the film clearly it didn't hit very big, honestly I don't know why it wasn't awful...granted it wasn't great, but your ripping review is harsh at best...offensive at mid level...and just plain uninformed at worst.
