2 stars out of 5. Here's why:

In the year 2058, PROFESSOR JOHN ROBINSON takes his wife MAUREEN and his children JUDY, PENNY & WILL on a space mission. They're accompanied by MAJOR DON WEST (who pilots the ship) and, without them knowing it, DR. ZACHARY SMITH (an evil spy). They accidentally enter a gravity well, which sends them to the future and to an unknown location in the galaxy. What?! In 43 years there won't be maps of the galaxy?! There should be now! Instead, the precious tax money I don't pay is being spent on maps with celebrities' homes addresses.

Gary Oldman's performance is over-the-top in the right way. It's hard to judge Matt LeBlanc, because WEST's personality constantly changes. The music score makes the movie feel like a light adventure. It works in certain scenes (specially the rousing climax), but it ruins the moments that are meant to be suspenseful. The effects are good for the most part, except for the terrible C.G.I. used to create BLARP (an alien primate the family adopt as a pet). The suits the characters wear at the beginning are shaped after their bodies. The men's abs and the women's boobs are highlighted. Didn't the makers learn anything from the backlash the suits from BATMAN & ROBIN (http://vits-ingthemovies.blogspot.com/2013/03/batman.html) received a year earlier? Oh, I forgot that both movies were written by Akiva Goldsman and that he produced this one.

To be fair, all of our maps of the galaxy are from the perspective of Earth. You get lost out there and you may have a hard time telling which star is which.
