Just plain awful...

The story was a bit on the cliche side but that didn't bother me too much because there are hardly any new ideas under the sun. But the writing was abysmal, the acting was sub-par and the special effects must have been pur together on an Apple Mac.

Gary Oldman was okay, don't get me wrong, but the writing didn't help him much. Heather Graham was... well, awful. Matt LeBlanc was nothing special either but I don't need to tell you that. The robot looked like it had been designed by sticking a few household appliances together. And the monkey-alien-mutated...thing...WTF! Seriously. I'm not even going to go into that! This should have been enough to make people think stupid alien things that make stupid noises are stupid but then a few years later we see Jar Jar Binks so maybe George Lucas didn't see this movie.

In conclusion, awful. I gave it a 3/10 because it was watchable but not worthy of a 4.

It seems like this movie was only made as a marketing ploy to sell memorabilia, toys and model kits.

They didn't even bother with a sequel, and the movie ended with a strong hint that there would be one.

Yeah, it's such a cliche` of the 1990s, complete with bratty kids who say things like, "this mission sucks," -- oh, that's sooo hip.

Sounds like you didn't understand the movie.

If you have some questions, I would be happy to answer them.

I dont like the sound of that sound

LOL !

Thank you very much for the knee-jerk "Worst movie ever" IMDB post. EVERY movie has this post and I would like to thank you for your contribution. ;)

The dialogue was campy and funny. It was supposed to seem over the top. And honestly no special effects seem special anymore since they stopped using models.

He didn't say that it was the worst movie ever, assclown.

I remember when this movie came out. friends of mine (we all watched LIS on TV as kids) were all looking forward to it. But, after leaving the theater, were extremely disappointed. there is really nothing good to say about this movie. THe writing, acting and special effects were all just bad.

The kids lines were right out 1980's sitcoms with smart-alec remarks to the adults. There was none of the family atmosphere of the the original. a total disappointment. 0 stars out of 10.

I recently watched it on TV and, did not get better with age.

Lost In Space is the series that ended Guy Williams career and also typecast most of the actors..The remake in 1998 was an honest effort and is meant to be entertainment, but you can't really compare the two..Here is a list of some **Worst Movie Ever** candidates and you will see that this film was not even in their league for poor films...

#1: Howard The Duck(George Lucas Disowned The Film)
#2: Car 54 Where Are You?
#3: The Hottie And The Nottie(Basically Any Film Paris Hilton Is In)
#4: Dragnet(The Tom Hanks And Dan Ackroyd Debacle)
#5: Dare To Love Me(The Lohan Mistake)

I could go on, But...

Guy Williams had an outstanding career after LIS playing Zorro, he was very famous down in Argentina.

Guy Williams did Zorro in 1957 and 1958 and Lost in Space in 1965..Check out his IMDB profile...

Then there must have been re-runs in Argentina because he moved there and was very famous, I saw an interview with June Lockhart in which she was talking about the success he had from the Zorro character.

Perhaps he was a Nazi?

Bah ha haaa ... to modify a quote from TBBT, the only thing missing there (OP) was a reference to Lucas' mother! But gotta agree ... a real mess. I don't know why - there was some great source material.

Still find this movie to be better then the Star Wars prequels.

This movie was horrendous. The script pretty much killed it. The actors (even the good ones like John Hurt and Gary Oldman), literally had nothing to work with. Mimi Roger just looked out of place in this film. Lacey Chabert and Heather Graham were also bad. Even if the script was good, I don't think they would have made the film any better. Whoever did the casting did a terrible job. LeBlanc had the right look, and he tried hard to play the part, but it was still sub-par. The only thing I liked was the look of the ship and the robot. The CGI puppet creature just seemed completely out of place. $75 million for this crap. It definitely was not better then any of the Star Wars movies. Even the awful "Phantom Menace" was better then this mess. Thankfully no sequel was made. Maybe a reboot can be done in a few years, like Star Trek.

Nah got to disagree. It wasn't that bad. I think Roger Ebert's "cheesy" special effects were actually pretty good. Really liked Matt Le Blanc, Heather Graham and Mimi Rogers in their roles and Gary Oldman just chewed up the scenary as usual. The updated robot was cool. I think the film was really trying to focus on the whole "Space Family Robinson" thing of the original early 60's comic, rather than the TV show, which some people may not have really appreciated. But will admit that the storyline went way off the rails in the third act with that rather confusing time travel plot. Lamest part of the whole film.

Hey Guys, It's a Familie Mosiion Picture!!! And if we just look at the Sci-Fi asspect, the special effects (1998!) and the familie acpect, it was (concidering my self) very OK. It was certenly not the best I've ever seen, but defenetly not the worst.I've seen the movie for the third time today (with my cousins) and they liked it.

So there was M. Le Blanc (wasn't his best movie), but if you look at the hole movie it wasn't that bad as others make you think.

1 to 10, it was a 6,5.

All in all it was an OK movie.

I found it "fascinating" that the "Star Trek" movie used a similar time travel plot which had the old spock meet the new spock. Maybe JJ Abrams stole a little something from "Lost in Space" to reboot that franchise??

I'd guess Abrams watched episodes of the original Star Trek series that involved both intentional and unintentional time travel like Tomorrow is Yesterday, or Assignment Earth and especially City on the Edge of Forever because it used a time gateway. Oh, and even the original film franchise in the movie Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Time travel and alternate world timelines were common components in the Star Trek universe. The big difference between the two films, of course, is that Star Trek was actually good
