Who speaks the opening narration?

Is it Cate Blanchett?

Maybe should have been Bilbo as the historian? Or Gandalf?

reply

Yes it was Galadriel. One argument for it being her is that she was the only one out of those you mentioned that was in Middle Earth at the time of the early events. Gandalf didn't show up in M.E. until quite a while later.

Thanks!

Yes, that's true. Of course if you think that way Elrond would seem an even better choice.

I heard that they actually did do it first with Elrond, but whenever he was shown during the flashback scenes, he would say things like "Look at that! Arrow flew right past my head and I didn't even flinch!" or "See! I told that dummy to throw the ring in the volcano and he didn't listen. Now look where we are. Why isn't everyone as smart as I am?".

Needless to say, Peter Jackson decided to go with Blanchett's version.

Uh huh. :)

The problem I have with it is that Galadriel is a doer, not a person who sits back and reflects on what has happened, or would deign to spend time telling others about it. Especially if you read about her career during the First Age.

Will be interesting to see if she shows up in the new program by the way.
