Last Alliance of Men and Elves?

Does anyone know when the 1st Alliance occurred? Ty in advance

reply

Men and Elves fought together against Morgoth, Sauron and their orcs for thousands of years throughout the First and Second Ages. (The Last Alliance marked the end of the Second Age.)

I wonder if they will ever make a movie about the days of Morgoth and Ungoliant and the balrogs and such. That could be pretty damn cool.

There has been much debate about that on the fandom, to put it mildly. I am firmly in the anti-Silmarillion-movie side myself, I don't think the book could be successfully adapted to the screen.

I just wish that someone could make a spectacular three-film series about the fall of Numenor, the founding of Gondor and Arnor, and the War of the Last Alliance. But it'll never happen as long as Christopher Tolkien has any say.

Yeah you could never make the entire Silmarillion into a coherent movie or trilogy, it would be all over the place. but your idea might be the only way to make work by taking select parts and having stand alone films.

Ain't it the truth. And who would you cast as the Valar, Melkor, and the elf-kings of old? How do you make the likes of Maedhros and Earendil into sympathetic screen characters, instead of having hobbits as the protagonists? How do you cope with generation after generation of heroes dying and others taking their place? How do you end it with nothing but a few homeless survivors telling the Valar to eff off and saying that in a few thousand years Middle Earth will be as good as new?

But the Last Alliance could work as movies or an extended miniseries, you could put Elendil's family at the center of it and make them relatable

Morgoth/Melkor could be cast as someone in the mold of Hiddleson’s Loki I suppose. He wouldn’t necessarily have to be a physically imposing figure. But Tulkas and Feanor would need to be played by some badass mofos. One thing the movies should not do that happens in the books is that everyone should not have 5 damn different names that they use interchangeably so that you keep having to think “Who the hell is this again?”

The Sil could be done as a multi-season series.

Not well. It's just not a story with mainstream appeal.
