How does the One Ring...

...fit Sauron's finger at the beginning and then a Hobbit's little finger later? Does it shapeshift accordingly?

reply

The ring always fits whomever is wearing it.

The size difference between Sauron's finger, the king's finger and a hobbit's finger are pretty significant. Does the ring have a mind of its own? Does it automatically and immediately adjust depending on the newest person to find it?

reply

Jeez... Never thought about that! Oo

My preciouuus.

Concerning your assumption that the size difference between Sauron's finger, the king's finger and a hobbit's finger is pretty significant, well, maybe it isn't as much as you think. Maybe hobbits have small but fat fingers (just like
midgets
little people), and Sauron has long but thin fingers.

I'm going by memory, but Sauron's hand looked pretty huge in the prologue.

reply

As I mentioned, its simple. The One Ring fits whomever is wearing it. In the film you can see it shrink to fit Isildur.

As for a "mind of its own": not precisely. But it does have an intelligence. Remember, Gandalf tells Frodo that the Ring wants to return to Sauron. It abandoned Gollum because he would not leave his cave.

Thanks.

When Isildur takes the ring it is shown to shrink in his hand. It's a special effects shot designed show that the ring adjusts to whomever is holding it.
