"The Prophecy" soundtrack

Is it just me or is the music the the track "The Prophecy" something completely different from what we hear in the beginning of the movie? The movie starts with Lothlorien theme, followed by Ring theme and then mostly Nazgul theme during the battle. None of it is heard in the first track of the OST. And the choir part we hear in the track is nowhere to be heard in the movie. I know there are a lot of differences between the movies and the soundtracks and a lot of mising music from them but this by far stands out the most.

In regards to the track, The Prophecy, the music from 0:00-2:12 and from 3:03-3:33 is not in the movie.

You can see more detail on the track here: http://amagpiesnest.com/cbc_analysis/fotr/f01prophecy.htm

From the Annotated Score of the FOTR by Doug Adams

The filmmaker's originally shot Fellowship's prologue as a shorter sequence for which Shore wrote a self-contained four minute composition. During the film's editing, it was decided that a lengthier sequence would set up the film's story with a more detailed and visceral punch. The film's Prologue was expanded, and so Shore went back and composed a new work to match the edit. The first composition (featuring the text, "The Battle of Dagorlad") was presented on The Fellowship of the Ring's original soundtrack album in 2001, but never appeared in the final film.

"The Battle of Dagorlad" was the original title of source text for the lyrics (also called) "The Prophecy".

Music closer to the movie can be found on the Complete Recordings of the Fellowship of the Ring, disc one, track one, Prologue: One Ring to Rule Them All

And an alternative version is on the Rarities Archive cd which came with the book, "The Music of the LOTR Films" by Doug Adams.

This book (with the accompanying CD) is well worth the purchase. Let that link above be the taste that tempts one to get an actual, legal copy. :-)

I think The Prophecy is probably one of my very favourite passages of score from all the stuff that's been released. Dare I say I prefer it to what's in the movie (which sounds terrible to say since the cue in the movie sets up quite a few significant leitmotifs). But I just love the darkness and grandeur of it - in that respect it's rather like one of my other favourite cues, the one when the fellowship enter the ancient hall in Moria i.e. the bit when Gandaf says, "Let me risk some more light...". It would have been interesting to see how the cue would have worked with the original prologue concept.

Someone with more spare time might want to compare the 'Prophecy' music with the beginning of the LotR Symphony. It might be more of what the OP was looking for.

+1 on the Doug Adams book.
