Did Tom really have to be so rude to Nick the Greek during the sales?

Hi everyone.

I was just wondering, in a scene about fifteen minutes into the movie, where Tom is trying to sell something to Nick the Greek, why WAS he so rude, pushy and unfriendly, is that his idea of an appropriate customer service?

He kept telling to Nick the Greek stuff like "it does not include the hump of me asking your stupid questions", "F it I'll think I keep it", "what school of finances did you go to" and kept belittling him into buying it and almost refusing to sell the item, refusing anything even remotely resembling a polite explanation of the product and what it includes etc and even swearing and insulting the guy, what's all that about, and why was he like that?

No offense but if I was tring to sell anything like that I would be as polite as heaven.

Even as a customer I am always polite when trying to buy stuff.

And he wasn't afraid even for a moment that Nick the Greek might not only refuse to buy the products but would angrily shout at the seller or at least say "Don't be rude!" etc like he should.

Did anyone else find his behaviour to be completely unacceptable in that scene and why?

Yeah one crook selling stolen goods to another is going to be an amicable transaction. Are you a troll or just brain dead?

reply

Doesn't matter if they're crooks. A good customer service has a far better chance of selling a product than a display of arrogant rudeness, and can we PLEASE stop with the "are you stupid?" or "just a troll" questions even if someone asks something a little obvious?

Only when people stop trolling and/or being stupid. Here's a question Einstein! Did Nick buy the product? Yes he did! So Tom got the sale didn't he? Your point is moot.

Yeah but in civilized environments, customers and sellers often got told off for far less.

reply

In civilised environments yes. In the world of Tom and Nick you get shot. Which is what I hope happens to you one day!

I've been told similar stuff on different type of threads for movies, but I hope I experience neither death nor a humiliation of any other similar extreme kind, at the hands of no-one, regardless of their gender, nationality etc. I'm a naughty man.

Then again, I've seen on IMDb some men say they would love to be r***d by the female character Dallas (played by Paulina Porizkova) in Skip Woods' black comedy thriller "Thursday" (1998) (and yes, it HAS that scene in it) - a movie by the way that I highly recommend if you liked this Ritchie flick, but I said I wouldn't want this to happen to me either.

And yes you're right, in the kind of criminal worlds both movies exist, characters get threatened, betrayed and shot, and as the aforementioned other movie proves, humiliated in that sense even in an unusual way.

So its not THAT surprising that a good customer service is so out of the question, now is it?

They all know each other, and it's just they wat they talk to each other,

The item Tom was selling was worth £900, Tom had already talked to Nick about the item and the price. Nick arrived trying to haggle an already low price. If you phoned me and said you were selling a PS4 for 20 quid and I came over haggling and asking if it included games and a monitor you'd likely also start being short.
Nick was taking the piss, Tom knew it and Nick knew it, even after negotiations Nick tried it again "100 pounds is still 100 pounds" despite just being told that the price was 200.
Tom's behaviour was necessary, Nick was clearly a good negotiator and would try and get every possible thing he can out of a deal, Tom needed to show he wasn't going to put up with any of Nick's bollocks.

They're mates. It's perfectly natural for this sort of conversation to take place. Casual abuse, nothing bad is meant by it.

reply

Look like nick was known for people treating him like that..

OK, we get it, and yes I was THE OP who made the thread originally too, haha, that yes its a crime world and all that.

Just that also, for one, I, like to be informed and comfortable at whatever I purchase stolen or legit.

Anyways...

People use abuse to try and set the other off course in some way, to agree to a better price or whatever. Given they all know each other they are also probably distrusting of each other too.
