...a cheap '90s television series/b-movie drama than a real '70s club scene. Everything from the clothes, the sets, the hair, even the lighting looked a little hollow like watching The Renegade or Walker Texas Ranger with Yuppies and no violence.

Agreed. You could drop these people into Mad About You, Just Shoot Me, or Caroline in the City at any moment and no one would be the wiser.
