Does anyone else like this movie at all?

I really love this movie. It's really funny, and I've seen it quite a few times. Reading the other posts though it makes me wonder if I am the only one who liked the movie. Does anyone have any positive feedback about this movie at all?

reply

I loved it! I have a strangely eclectic taste in movies, but I thought it was funny.

That's why her hair is so big. It's full of secrets.

i enjoyed it.. good movie to watch on a sat afternoon on channel 11 or 9......which is where it can usually be found.

reply

i have a degree in anthropology, so - no. i guess it's not as offensive to a layperson though.

reply

I don't think it's offensive to "tribal" people at all. It's spoofing academia, not New Guinea natives.

reply

I definitely had some good moments. There were some charming performances too.

Not the best comedy ever, but I liked it well enough, an excellent cast of actors, in fact the actors are what made it a pretty decent film, the script was the weakest part of the movie, overall I gave it a 6 out of 10

It's a good movie. I remember seeing it back in 97-98 when it first came out on video. Those were the good ol' days.

I loved the movie I really did, but I think mostly that it was becuase of the actors, if the movie had anybody else, I probably wouldn't have cared for it.

I love this movie a lot and would like to find it on DVD. I don't think it was supposed to be realistic though, I mean the whole plot is that it's a made up tribe to buffalo the stuck up snobs who think they know everything and want to see Krippendorf fall. It's a light funny film meant to be enjoyed.

reply

The only reason I would buy this film on DVD would be to show my class what Anthropology is NOT about! I'm sure that most other anthropologists would find this film to be offensive on so many levels (as I did), BUT I have to agree with a previous poster that it does take some funny jabs at academic-types. And we all know that academics are kooky and fun for a laugh :)

I see a lot of butt hurt people, movies are to escape reality, or should everyone get upset over spoofs, I've3 seen about everything poked fun at, cops, firemen, teachers, etc, you think your so special? Just how many people would be interested in a serious movie, even movies made about a persons life has stuff added to keep the audience interested!

Doctors can enjoy Scrubs, why can't an anthropologist enjoy this? I have a lawyer uncle who loves Boston Legal.

Neither of those shows even remotely portray a hospital or law office realistically...

reply

I thought Krippendorf's Tribe was lighthearted and entertaining, gave it a 7/10. My girlfriend absolutely loved it.

Scrubs is meant to be silly at times and many of the situations are exaggerated, but the personalities of the people are more like what you'd find in a hospital than just about any other medical TV series. And yeah, I would think professionals could enjoy movies set in their bailiwick, even if (and perhaps especially if) they spoof the field wildly.

reply

Couldn´t agree more. Dreyfuss is hilarious in here. And the spoofing of the academic world is something to relish on. I also enjoy Scrubs and the like, being a doctor. I know it is not documentary and neither a realistic portrait of both fields and that is what makes it great!

It's ok, not great, but I enjoyed it.

Funny movie but no Oscar.

The responses from anthropologists on this site is proof positive that they no sense of humor - or they've missed the fact that this is JUST A MOVIE, not a documentary.

Now that's funny ;-)
