THE BEST VAN DAMME MOVIE EVER!!! (you must see it to believe it)

Let's face it people, nearly each film Van Damme's done before 98 or after immediately turned up as a complete piece of trash but fortunately only except for his instant classic extravaganza Knock Off, truly excellent tour de force film from the get-go. I don't think that Van Damme will ever do such a high quality film again, which is sad because at that time i'm 100% sure those were absolutely the best moments of his career. Believe me working with such a legend as Tsui Hark is one actor's dream. And doing so highly sophisticated, entertaining, creative, original and fascinating film must have been something totally new for Van Damme. This film is a jewel that should be seen by everyone, already just for its novelty it's worth it.

I agree. This movie is pretty good.

reply

I've got to agree. I can't stand any of Van Damme's other movies and yet this film has to be one of the most entertaining action films I've ever seen. I still have no idea why I watched it though.

reply

it's an alright action film. but it still doesn't speak well about JCVD's career.

Hong Kong action films are growing on me.

I know a little German. He's sitting over there

reply

yeah, its the best JCVD's film. And one of the best hongkong films.

reply

previous poster perfectly hit the nail on the head. It's really one of the best Hong Kong movies (and i've seen a LOT), it's more or less the greatest tribute to HK flicks out there. Truly stunning film.

and no doubt certainely the best film material Van Damme could have (slept) starred in.

reply

Street Fighter is better and actually give me a couple of laughs plus a couple of good fights compare to this complete crap!!

reply

I thought "Knock Off" was very entertaining. A pleasant way to spend a few mindless hours. The trick is not to take such films too seriously.

reply

Previous poster said it perfectly, you can not take it seriously, it's all a stupid fun but a very artistically accomplished, geez look at those visuals and camera tricks, the way it's shot is a work of genius. Out of question the most accomplished film of Van Damme's career.

have a nice d... oh *beep* it, kill everybody and then kill yourself, have a nice few seconds

This film is quite simply truly undeniable work of a genius. Nothing can better describe the narrative flow, visual pedigree and synthesis of the American and Chinese viewpoints and aesthetics. In cetain sense it is a really minor masterpiece.

reply

If you can see pass the fact that most of the fights in the movie were performed by a Chinese stuntman/Van Damme look-a-like, this movie is actually quite entertaining.

I agree. It's the best he's ever done.

And it still sucks so much.

reply

It is very very entertaining. Fantastic, even. Certainly it's far more entertaining than a lot of the other crap in the time before In Hell came along and he started to act reasonably well, probably because it's a parody.

"Fu*k! Why can't I ever say what I really mean?"

I liked this movie it was cool. The soundtrack good actor performance( Great action star VAN DAMME and Schneider who did a good job as action here sidekick). Good film one Van Dammes bestest !

reply

I liked it too. This is the first movie that I saw Van Damme in. This movie is also his first comedic performance(with the help of Rob Schneider).

reply

It seems to me that non van damme fans enjoyed this movie but most fans of van damme disliked it. I honestly don't know how anyone could like this movie, especially more than Universal Soldier or Timecop. This movie was terrible, editing was crap, dubbing was embarrassing, 90% of the movie was dubbed!!! It just looked so cheap, and the special effects didn't help either. I believe this to be one of van dammes worst movies, along with double team, both directed by the same guy. I enjoyed Jon Woos Hard Target 100 times more than Knock Off. If this film made 1/4 its budget then it really was the one to kill his career of any chance of future theatrical releases.

reply

I like JCVD's hits such as Timecop, Universal Soldier, Hard Target, Bloodsport. But I also like his sillier B-movies, like Knock Off and Double Impact. I agree that Double Team was miserable. Who cares about a movie being dubbed? Enter the Dragon was dubbed. The gonzo editing and camera work is intentional, as are the green flames and other goofy effects. The movie is a satire/parody of Hong Kong movies and JCVD's action persona and Hollywood, in general.

reply

Interesting. I didn't know the same director did Double Team. Double Team was terrible but I thought Knock Off was a lot better. The weird sped-up action was distracting though. It made all the action look very silly. Was that the intent of the director? Those scenes didn't make good use of Van Damme's skills.

It was a funny movie. I don't like Rob Schneider but I thought he was funny.

By the way, I'm a Van Damme fan.
