When should this be watched?

Should this be watched before season 1 like some people claim or should this be watched after season 4? What do you guys think and why?

reply

ok, after watching it, i believe it is best to watch this immediately after season 4 and right before season 5. Here is a link that gives a better explanation of this:

I am 4 for 5 with using this movie to convince people to watch the whole series. Season 1 is comparatively weak when stacked up against 2-4 and maybe even 5, the pilot I don't even bother watching anymore. There is, in my opinion, only one significant spoiler where Londo reveals the fate of Sheridan and Delenn. However, the movie covers the Earth/Minbari war in detail and is a great example of the best the show has to offer. If you started a sci-fi newbie on season 1 or worse the pilot you wouldn't have as high of a success rate.

I'm introducing my GF to the series now. We just started Season 2 and I'm not showing her "In The Beginning" until after Season 4, just like it was produced. She's really interested in the mysteries about "what happened on the battle of the line" and what not; so I'm not going to show her the prequel that answers all of those questions until we've seen the eps that deal with them.

She's also really jazzed about "what happened to B4?" but I can't discuss any of it with her until after we watch War Without End

I waited until I had watched the complete series twice before I watched this and I'm glad i did. It would be fine to watch before season five but definitely not before season four. But I liked waiting until after the end becasue by then I know the characters all so well, and I knew everything so well ... it was nice learning some new things.

Very well made tv movie.

JMS suggested using this to hook people on the series. It gives away a lot, so I'm not sure. It's definitely stronger than The Gathering, or any of season 1.

If you want to watch it during the series, the last major spoiler is for Atonement in season 4. There is a tiny spoiler for Rising Star in season 4, but nothing really big. So probably watch it after season 4, unless you start with it.
