Illuminata... on stage

Hey,
I am part of a theatre group and we are just starting to work on Illuminata in order to have it on stage about next autumn.
Of course we all have our heads stuffed with ideas already. What I know from myself is, though, that when you watch a movie as incredible and beautiful as Illuminata (-is in my opinion), you develop more ideas of your own and are thrilled with the possibility of ever realising them. I would be grateful if anybody would share that with us to enrich our performance.
Thank you.

I can't wait to read your script.

Personally, this film meant a great deal to me in my desire to write plays. After seeing the film back in 2000 (I bought it from the video store having never heard of it - I love the work of Bill Irwin), I wrote a pair of one acts - one won a competition, leading to my entrance into an MFA writing program, which I completed in 03. I actually just completed a new play, to be performed in April 05, and during rehearsal, I re-recognized the significant effect the play within Illuminata has had on my writing style. I screened it for my actresses to help them get in their heads what I'm trying to evoke from them.

I love this film dearly, and I enjoy most of all being one of the few who've even heard of it. I recommend it every chance I get.

Does anyone know of the Brandon Cole play that is the source material for the film?

Thanks for the reply!

Sadly, though, we are performing it in Germany so unless you know German you might not enjoy our script very much! ;)
We had to translate the whole thing since there is no German version of the film. We did quite a good job, though (after a hell of a struggle and a number of sleepless nights).
I am to play Rachel and am very exited since I never did much acting before!
Still I would love you to share your ideas.
Wish us luck!

Cheers.

Hello, I'm Brandon Cole. I co-wrote ILLUMINATA with John Turturro that was based on my stage play "Imperfect Love." If you're still interested in reading the stage play I'd be pleased to email it to you. You can reach me at: [email protected]

If the play was to be on stage in Autumn of 2005 why have you not posted anything else to tell us about its' raving success? I have such a love for ILLUMINATA and the way that it was acted out. I would love to have it ran here in our theatre, Springer Opera House. I realize that it is not a well known film, that is why I gave the academy director a copy of the DVD. During my rehearsal for the upcoming season I recited Tuccios' verse as he spoke to the audience after Pieros' fall from grace.

I knew a man once who asked his wife, "How do you want me to love you?"
He had become infatuated with another woman.
"Do you want me to love you without suffering?"
He forced his wife into the humiliation of inviting the other woman to dinner.
"Do you want me to love you without cruelty?"
He spent the entire evening sitting next to the other woman while his wife sat alone and silent staring out a window into the night.
The other woman ran out of the house, and he ran after her... running through the streets... in the rain... screaming her name...but he never found her.
He went home........his wife had drunk iodine.
"HOW COULD YOU?" he shook her......"HOW COULD YOU? I CAN NOT IMAGINE MY LIFE WITHOUT YOU!"
She vomited.
"Don't you understand what a beautiful love I would like to give you.........just loving you?"
She vomited again.
"What a beautiful love I would LOVE to give you."

This is Tuccio's play. It touches me. I can feel everyones' emotions in this film, and that moves me every time I view it.

Please give me feedback on this soon. I would love to interact with you about this.

It's a slender curtain between theatre and life. Let's lift that curtain, shall we?
