color

anyone know were i can get the color version of this film?

reply

Ermmm. it was released in b & W only. You would need to ask John Borman as it was shot in colour and transformed into B & W to maintain shadings.

reply

if you look under triva it says it was shown it the states in color

reply

Unless you can find it on video/DVD, your best bet would be to ask around on the boards if anyone has it. It was shown here in New Zealand from about 2:30 am this morning so a keen fan may have taped it.

Good luck.

The DVD has the B&W and desaturated color versions.

reply

And the desaturated color version is basically b&w with a hint of colours thrown in for the hell of it. Its even worse than b&w.

reply

The film was intended to be in B&W by the director. This was to create the atmosphere that went with the film and is an important part of it in the view of the director. Color was added later because there are many people who are so accustomed to color that they get upset when they see a film in black and white, even when it fits the mood of the picture.

I guess Boorman didn't realize that film goers today have no artistic feel. They prefer to be smacked full in the face with shoot 'em up action and not have their grey matter working.

I loved the look of this film. I'd love more films to be made in b/w.
