Hard Rain saw the return of Slater and Ryan Kemp. They had worked a decade earlier on Gleaming the Cube. This time Kemp was in the directors chair. Kemp, who had no directing experience, butted heads with Veteran actor Morgan Freeman. Freeman, a civil rights activist, was well aware of Kemp's stereotypical character writing. Kemp was blamed for the failure of the 1980s classic TV show O'Hara.
