Did H2 still happen?

I know they erased H4-6 out of continuity but did the second film happen or did only the first film happen?

Second film happened and mentioned. John Tate : You told me you watched him burn. Laurie : I didn't exactly stick around to see his ashes.

"He came home." - Dr. Sam Loomis from the original HalloweeN

reply

Yes, it did.

I wish it hadn't.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

You also see newspaper clippings of Laurie in a hospital gown, sitting in a wheelchair before she's loaded into an ambulance, that was a still of H2, giving a slight nod that it did happen.

This film includes the events of H2 but it picks and chooses which plot points to acknowledge while conveniently ignoring others. It didn't help that the diretor (Steve Minor) admitted in interviews that he considers H20 a direct sequel to H1.

To simplify things, I think H2 should have been ignored altogether and have H20 pick up 20 years after Michael disappears from the Doyle's back yard at the end of H1. There wouldn't be any baggage to address from ANY of the sequels and H20 literally could have started with a clean slate.

reply

Agreed. They totally should have made it a direct sequel to the 1978 original if they were going to ignore the continuity of Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988), Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989), and Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995). I guess they wanted to include the sibling subplot that's not mentioned in the original, plus the director of Halloween II served as a continuity consultant for Halloween H20, so he wouldn't want to ignore his one film (and the sole reason he was even paid to be part of the H20 crew in the first place).

Both Halloween 1 & 2 happened. This is the direct sequel.

(in this cannon at least)

I like to think 4-6 still happened. One could argue that Laurie faked her death and left Jamie behind as she didn't want her daughter to go through a life in hiding. The killings 4-6 could have been kept quiet by the Haddonfield police who didn't want national negative publicity to come to their town. Maybe Michael sensed that Laurie might still be alive when he realized killing Jamie and other family members in 4-6 didn't stop his curse. The only outlier is the Myers house being different in Halloween 5. Perhaps the Myers house in 5 was a different house the family lived in before the one seen in the other films. The look of the Myers house in Resurrection could have been decorated to look spookier by the reality TV show which would explain why it is not remodeled as it was in H6.

Unless you count the new one. Then nothing counts but the first one.

reply

Yeah it's all factory reset . Halloween is a direct sequel to Halloween.
