I liked it to an extent. I liked the return of JLC, Nancy Stephens. I didn't mind the new cast of young kids, though they certainly could've been better. What I didn't like was the Scream score, the Scream 2 cameo (unnecessary) and the ending. Yes, Laurie "won" and that's the point, but you never really kill Michael. Not in any other Halloween film did they do that, even II.

The ending could've been more ambiguous. I left thinking "That was it?"

I was 11 and saw it in theaters with my older brother and from what I remember everyone really liked it.

I was 16 and remember trying to think up ways they would bring him back for another sequel. Because you know, you can't kill the boogeyman.

I saw it twice, since back then they had the first run and then the second run in a much cheaper dollar theater shortly before it went to VHS.

The audience jumped at the appropriate parts and seemed into it in the sense that no one was busy talking during the movie (cell phones were not an issue then). When it was over, everyone just left.

Honestly I remember much stronger reactions to Scream 2 and I Know What You Did Last Summer. The audience was much more hyped up and vocal about those films. Scream 2 in particular was like a carnival in the damn theater. Not that the reactions to H20 were bad, they just weren't that crazy.

Late response, but during Scream 2 for instance the audience was just going wild. People clapped when the Dimension logo came on and the film was just starting and it was raucous in there from there on out. People shouting "It's her!" or "It's him!", laughing at Gale and Dewey, and cheering at the appropriate parts. It was a circus. Scream hype was huge in 1997 because the original was a smash hit the year before and everyone was ready for the sequel.

I Know What You Did Last Summer had a similar atmosphere but it was a little more toned down.

The audience for H20 was more reserved. It was all about the new slashers back then.

The slasher revival craze died out quickly, though. The atmosphere at Scream 3 was just 3 years later and much more muted.

I remember seeing Scream 2 in the theatre the night it came out and, like you said, the audience was fantastic.

They were into everything, and it was really a thrill to see it with that type of crowd.



Very positive, lot of jumps and i think someone screamed when michael myers showed up in the hallway of marion's house. i remember during the break (we had breaks back then in my theater) some girl yelled out loud to another girl, asking her if she knew this chick "chyntia" who apparently was a total whore. Her words, not mine. After the break we went to sit in the back of the theater cause there were two spots left. And i could have sworn somebody was smoking a cig lol fun times.

I hated Jaws, it had too much shark, and dont get me started about King Kong, waaay too much gorilla

Saw it the week after it came out. Theater had a few dozen people in it, people were pretty calm. I do remember a middle-aged guy (who was alone) walked out during Jodi Lyn O'Keefe's death. I can only imagine that he had bought into the hype that this was more in spirit with Carpenter's film and was disappointed when it switched gears into typical slasher mode.

As I recall, the Bride of Chucky trailer that played beforehand got a lot of laughs and cheers from the audience.

Anyone here mentions Hotel California dies before the first line clears his lips.

When Laurie cut Michael's head off I gave a standing ovation, figuring this was IT THE END. 4 years later, I was quite vocally cursing of course.

That scene isn't overly graphic though, is it? Apart from the door of the dumb waiter crushing her leg, it's fairly restrained. Perhaps it was Mr. O'Keefe.



Not he scene itself, but the aftermath, the trail of blood and we're talking a river, not drips and her being strung up like a human pumpkin was kinda graphic.

I think it was more that the death was drawn out and graphic. 

I saw it opening day. (SPOILERS) When she cuts off his head at the end people applauded and then said "You Know it ain't him"
