Rank the Halloween films

Here's mine...

1) Halloween (1978)

2) Halloween II (1981)

3) Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers

4) H20: 20 Years Later

5) Halloween (2007, Rob Zombie)

6) Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers

7) Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers

I do not count Season of the Witch as a Halloween film. Also I do not count Ressurection and Rob Zombie's Halloween II as canon, as they were both absolute sh*t.

Do I take life or give it...? Who is victim and who is foe...?

My top 5
1. Halloween (1978) - Not only the best of the series, but the best slasher film ever and not a drop of blood.

2. Halloween 2 (2009) - I love the dream sequences, beautifully shot and we finally see what Michael sees in his head. Plus it has one of the best endings I've seen in a Halloween film (TC version).

3. Halloween (2007) - A remake that follows the original but puts in on another level with a story of it's own.

4. Halloween H20 - The best of the original sequels, as it ignores 4-6 and goes back to basics. Plus it gives Jamie Lee Curtis a chance to upgrade Laurie Strode.

5. Halloween 2 (1981) - Continues where the original left off but doesn't really capture the tension as the first.

These ones I don't count as part of my collection
6. Halloween 4 - It's a decent and worthy addition, but I didn't find it interesting until the ending.

7. Halloween 3 - I don't know what to think of this anymore, other than it shouldn't be part of the series.

8. Halloween 5 - A very tired and boring addition and leaves too many questions that they didn't intend on answering.

9. Halloween Resurrection - Although considered the worst by many, but not by me but does come close. What saves it from being the worst for me is the production design and Jamie Lee Curtis's cameo, although I did find her quick demise and the retcon for Michael's death in H20 an insult.

10. Halloween 6 - The worst for me, it poorly answers the questions left in H5 and the Thorn explaination for the way Michael is I still can't make sense of. The deaths in this were stupid and over the top and the editing was so bad. I can't find one good moment in this film.

Halloween (1978)- it's the original. It's the creepiest and the best.

Halloween H20- such a great ending to the Halloween 1, 2 and H20 trilogy. Laurie Strode is so well developed and such a great character in this. And it's really scary and Josh Hartnett is fvcking gorgeous!

Halloween 4- I consider Halloween 4 and 5 their own films outside of 1, 2, and H20. I really like the Rachel character and I think this one is scary.

Halloween 2 (1981)- what a terrifying night for Laurie considering 1 and 2 are on the same night. This one is a little slow, and a little out of the realm of reality I(a hospital where nobody is at?) but it's still a good follow up of "the night he came home."

Halloween 5- People hate this one, but I love it. I hate that Rachel dies, but I LOVE the character of Tina. This one has some great moments. Danielle Harris was an actress beyond her age. She is so talented in this.

Halloween 6 is crap. Halloween: Resurrection didn't happen. Rob Zombie needs to be executed for what he did with those remakes. They are an abomination. He has no respect for the Halloween movies and I have no respect for him.

Oh...my...Goddess.

I agree 100%! Who could think they could remake one of the best classic horror movies of all time and not be the most hated man in the world? Really?
When I watch the original, I feel goosebumps. When I watch the remake, I feel disgusting. So, the series ended at H20. It's a shame how they ruined the character of Laurie andmade her a crazy physco and made her die in Ressurrection. EW

Halloween (Original): Suspenseful, scary, character developement. Overall one of the best horror movies ever.

Halloween H20: Amazing endign for a great series. Love Jamie Lee Curtis!

Halloween 2: Wonderful and great kills. Cool ending as well.

------------------------------------------------------------

Halloween 4: This is one the only one outside of the main plotline (Laurie Strode life). That was decent. The rest don't exist and the remakes were nothing but trailer trash and mindless killings.

reply

I personally only consider the "true" Halloween films to be Halloween (1978), Halloween II, and Halloween H20. H20 had a good ending and I like how Laurie finally took control and ended it. Resurrection...kind of ruined that, which is why I don't like it.

Never saw the remake of Halloween simply because I know what happens and I'm too much of a fan of the original. I mean, I'm sure it was good in its own right and some fans of the old one probably liked watching it, but I've never had the urge to see it.

I actually kind of like Halloween 4 and 5 just because I like crappy/campy horror movies and so they're sort of entertaining. But even though they borrow Michael Myers...they sort of stand alone since they're not really recognized in H20 (and the Jamie plot is such a stretch later on).

I don't know if that makes sense to anyone but me...but there it is.

And Curse of the Witch/Curse of Michael Myers don't even rank.

reply

I love Zombie's remake of the first one. The first half was a great prequel. I wish that could have been stretched out and become just a prequel. The kid was chilling. Good back story.

reply

I feel like the odd-one out here!

I totally disliked the disregard of films 4 & 5 (hell, even part 6) to create H20.

For me the order is:

Halloween (You can't mess with the original...it's a classic and it deserves the top spot).

Halloween 2 : To me, this should be lumped together with the first film for the top spot. I see them as one film with this being the continuation to Laurie's night of terror. I love this film. Actually love it a little more then the first but I just can't bump it to #1 for minor reasons. Bits of slow-pacing and too many characters.

Halloween 4 & 5 tied for this spot. They work together. I wish they hadn't killed off Laurie but I loved the addition of her little girl going through her same nightmare. It works. The addition of the man in black and the strange ending to part 5 is just odd but, still...i like these.

H20: I actually don't like this that much. I love that Laurie Strode is back but I HATE that they decided to just throw-away the Jamie story-line and pretend like it never happened. It wastes so much of our time as people who have followed the character of Jamie and have rooted for her. It just seems disrespectful to me. In the same vein of what Alien 3 did to the ALIENS franchise by killing off Newt. We love Newt. We want her and Ripley to survive and be happy together and then she is just DEAD. Not cool. But, this is not a horrible film. The mask is bad...the music is odd (using the same exact score from the SCREAM films was just bizarre to me!) and the character of Laurie is kind of...well, a bioootch. She was just a mean mom in this film and although she hacks a head off in the end the beginning of the film made her seem shrewish and rude. She was unlikeable.

Halloween by Rob Zombie comes in before Resurrection for me. I dislike this film for a lot of reasons but I like it more then the mess that was made with the "follow up" to H20. Way to go giving Laurie Strode closure and then bring her back for 5 minutes of screen time just to kill her off. WASTE OF TIME! Hate that. I like to think that it never happened.

Halloween 2 by Rob Zombie is a disaster. I hated it.

For me it goes

Halloween (1978)
Halloween H20
Halloween 2 (1981)
Halloween (2007)
Halloween 4
Halloween 5
Halloween 2 (2009)
Halloween Resurrection
Halloween 6

To me, Halloween 6 is just the worst. Its so unbelievably bad. Far worse than Resurrection or Zombie's Halloween 2. Personally, I've always really enjoyed Halloween 4 and 5. I feel like 5 is pretty underrated, and H20 is DEFINITELY underrated.

1.John Carpenter's Halloween
2.Halloween II
3.Halloween 4:The Return Of Michael Myers
4.Halloween 5/Halloween:The Curse of Michael Myers(I thought Curse was underrated but I didn't think it was better or worse then 5)
5.Halloween h20:20 years later(This film felt too "new" and I thought it was a huge dick move to ignore 4-6, also I hated how they got a voice over actor instead of using the original audio)

I love all of the Halloween movies including Season of the Witch but i Feel it's unfair to rank Season of the witch with the other films.
