Why didn’t Doug Hutchinson (Percy) go on to a bigger career?

He was excellent in this role, creating a truly memorable character. It should have led to more high profile, quality work.

He was great in his X-Files episodes, too. Last I saw of him he was in the news for marrying a teenager when he was over 50.

He married a 16 y/o girl when he was in his fifties.

Needless to say, it caused a bit of a scandal.

I think that's why he was so good in Green Mile - he's freaking creepy. Makes the degree of difficulty low when you're playing a creepy character when you have a built in foundation.

Yeah I was thinking this too. It takes a talented actor to make you hate a character the way this film makes you hate Percy.
