Susan Sarandon was a HORRIBLE mother

Susan Sarandon should be the StepMom in this film, because she's the one I felt needed a wart coming out of her nose. Julia Roberts is nothing but sweet to the spoiled kids, and yet the audience is supposed to feel for Sarandon? Yeah right. Jena Malone (who gives probably the worst child performance I have ever seen) behaves more like a homosexual male then a teen girl. She's really annoying, has "white people" problems, wants to be Elvis for Halloween, and gets upset over the dumbest things- including her mother telling her she has cancer. Wow, what a brat. I think Ed Harris is also wasted.

The only bright spot in the film comes when we can breathe a sigh of relief that Sarandon will not make it to the end credits. She was a malicious monster who should have been taken to court by Roberts on multiple counts of bitchiness.

She was so mean! I just watched this movie again. I was so bothered by her rudeness that I looked for a place to post. lol. Never felt the need to do this. The nastier Jackie was the more her health declined.
In other words, she was so shitty it ate her up. Or she created bad karma, whatever, nevertheless, in the end SHE lost her kids, not Isabel. Never would wish death on anyone, but it is kind of satisfying this time around watching the movie.

Right? I'm watching yet again (honestly, I can't get enough of that beautiful house and the fall foliage & Christmas settings), and Jackie is the absolute worst! So self-righteous, "my job as a mom is twice as hard as Isabel's job", and I don't get paid, blah, blah. Cry me a river in your huge, beautiful old house, while you take your entitled children horseback riding, out of a stable whose lessons your ex is probably still paying for.

Isabel wasn't even the reason for Luke and Jackie's split, either. Why the hell would Jackie think it's okay to disrespect Isabel, an adult who is in their child's lives, in front of those children, and actively encourage their disrespect of Isabel? I get the feeling she was like that before the cancer diagnosis, so I can't bring myself to feel that badly for her.

And the way she babied those kids. You'd think they were a lot younger than they actually were, based on the way Jackie treated them.

Did they ever explain why Sarandon's character waited so long to have kids? She just seemed way too old to play someone with kids still in grade school.
