this movie wasn't that bad. I think everybody who watched it was trying to take it for a more serious movie than for what it is. Just because Marlon Brando was in it doesn't mean it has to be oscar worthy. I enjoyed it. Sheen and the other guy are supposed to be stupid, thats why their lives sucked and they kept getting in trouble.

Is it meant to be a serious film? A lot of the time it felt too lightweight and light-hearted.
I could've been a good, quirky 'everything goes wrong' movie ala 'Fargo', but instead it's just a meandering, directionless film of little consequence. The only thing that elevates it are the actors involved.
I enjoyed this movie which was surprising.

I loved it. Sort of remind me of a blue collar comedy My Name is Earl.
shareIt's not a bad film. The cast is great and yes it's kind of like a "My Name is Earl"(which I have only seen a few times) episode.
It does have some laugh out loud moments.
Make no mistake, it IS A COMEDY. This film is worthwhile if only as a lasting tribute to Brando's comedic skills. His character is one that you must get used to in order to appreciate.
If you need to categorize this film I would compare it to something like "Brother Where Art Thou". There is goofiness involved but it's intentionally done with very wry humor.
Brando makes Sheen & Church seem like knuckleheads in nearly every scene, the scene where he reads from the bible for instance. If you don't catch the humor right off give it another try, it's well worth the effort.
This is a film that definitely grows on you.
the tone is uneven and the odd camera work is jarring at times, but this is never dull
