Chris Evans is better as Johnny Storm/Human Torch than CA

He embodied the character very well. Charismatic actor like him fits better as those wise-cracking type superheroes (Human Torch, The Flash or Deadpool)

CA: First Avenger is a good movie and looking forward for the upcoming sequel but Evans doesnt convince me as CA.

I never understood the hatred for Chris Evans as Johnny Storm... aside from the miscast of Jessica Alba as his Latino sister, Susan. I think Chris played the character perfectly, as a wise-ass. Johnny is supposed to be so obnoxious that he actually makes Spider-Man shut up. And Chris did that wonderfully.

reply

@LukeLovesFilm28 People hate Johnny because he's so obnoxious (though I didn't think he was that bad). And some people transfer the hatred for a character to the actor.

reply

I'm watching the original Fantastic Four film right now. Actually in hindsight, Johnny is actually fun and funny. He's just got a lot of energy.

reply

Alba is only half Latino the other half is European. And I still think she made a better Sue.

In the kingdom of the blind, you're the village idiot.

So, it's okay for Cameron Diaz, Sara Paxton, Alexes Bledel, Anita Page, Majandra Delfino, Uma Thurman, Sarah Ramos, and number other blue eyed beauties to play all American characters, but not Jessica Alba. Ridiculous.

I voted for Frenchie and Dia like a sex donkey on Xanax.

I thought people liked Chris? I think he's one of the few things this film has going for it

reply

Thank you!! I loved him as HT. Him being captain America isn't believable for me because that's how I know him...as the Torch and they are completely opposite people.

reply

Him NOT being believable at CA Rogers ?

C'mon, I mean who in the *beep* in HollyWood is tall, built and can act ? Chris Evans ever since starring in the movie London, was on a completely new level of acting. So he can do whatever he wants and getaway with it.

Ryan Reynolds can't, but Reynolds plays tons of gay roles, I wonder is that way him and Scarlet never lasted ?

reply

I preferred him better as Captain America than Johnny Storm because as Captain America he was a mature gentleman but as Johnny Storm he was an obnoxious immature ladies man.

reply

Captain America he was a mature gentleman

Yes but it didnt feel right for Evans.

Johnny Storm he was an obnoxious immature ladies man.

Thats Johnny Storm there and Evans nailed the role.

reply

If you had no idea who Evans was, you probably wouldn't be questioning his performance as Cap.

reply

That shows what a good actor he is.

reply

It's a travesty for us fans, because he really did steal the show as Johnny Storm. As captain, he just doesn't. I feel he was very miscast for the role. That said, Winter Soldier does look good.

reply

I never understood the hatred for Chris Evans as Johnny Storm...

Because he's CA now.

reply

I like him as both. He's hilarious as Johnny Storm. He is really the best part of the whole movie. However, the movie is boring otherwise.

Captain America, both The First Avenger AND the incredibly awesome Winter Soldier are just plain better movies all the way around and back.

Chris is fantastic as Cap. He IS Cap. I love him as Cap. He's absolutely the perfect Cap. I don't understand how people could say he's unbelievable in the role(?!)

As the Human Torch, Chris gets to be laid back and fun.

As Captain America, he gets to stretch his acting chops. His interactions with his old best friend Bucky in Cap 2 is heart wrenching and spectacular. He's not moody or wishing he wasn't Cap. He never goes there. He is good and honest and questions other's intentions. He's brilliant. I will say that I enjoyed him as CA better in Cap 2 than in The Avengers(although I love that movie), because he really gets to kick booty in Cap 2 and show who Cap really is and why he's the leader of the Avengers. I can't wait to see what he does in Avengers 2.

So again, I love him as both characters and I don't see why I can't! Is there some rule against liking both? If there is, then I choose CA...every. single. time.

reply

Chris is good as both characters. But if I were to be friends with either one, I'd say Captain America. Some people actually complain about Evans' Captain being "boring", but one reason I like him is because it's so refreshing to see a hero who is also a really decent guy. He's not a cocky joker, emotionally damaged brute, or psychotic self-loathing anti-hero. Evans probably doesn't embody Captain America like Christopher Reeve embodies Superman, but he's still good.
